Our Sacred History

Jai Ram Yog Ashram was established in the late 19th century by the revered saint Adi Guru Shri Jairam Ji Maharaj, a realized yogi and devoted practitioner of Vedic traditions. Born in Sonipat (Haryana), he was drawn toward spirituality from a young age and dedicated his life to the practice of mantra, meditation, and service to humanity.

In the year 1885, he arrived in Rishikesh—then a quiet forested area known only to sages and ascetics. Through intense tapasya (austerities) and deep meditation, he attained spiritual insight and established the ashram as a place for seekers to practice sadhana, devotion, and self-realization.

His teachings emphasized:

  • Simplicity and disciplined living
  • The power of the Gayatri Mantra
  • Service to all beings (seva)
  • Living in harmony with nature and dharma

Even after he left his physical body in 1903, his spiritual vision continues to guide the foundation and purpose of the ashram.

Expansion and Spiritual Leadership

The growth and development of the ashram were carried forward by Brahmachari Shri Devendra Swaroop Ji Maharaj, whose dedication transformed it into a large spiritual and charitable institution.

Under his leadership, the ashram expanded to include:

Spiritual halls for satsang, meditation, and teachings

Our spiritual halls are शांत, sacred spaces designed to support deep inner connection and collective growth. Here, seekers gather for satsang (spiritual discourse), guided meditation, mantra chanting, and traditional teachings, creating an atmosphere of peace and higher awareness. Surrounded by the divine energy of Rishikesh and the gentle flow of the Ganges River, these halls provide the perfect environment to quiet the mind, absorb ancient wisdom, and experience the true essence of yogic living.

Educational institutions promoting Sanskrit and Vedic knowledge

Our educational initiatives are dedicated to preserving and sharing the timeless wisdom of Sanskrit and Vedic traditions. Through structured learning, scriptural studies, and guided teachings, students gain a deeper understanding of ancient texts, philosophy, and the roots of authentic yoga. Set in the spiritually rich environment of Rishikesh, these institutions nurture both intellectual growth and inner awareness, helping seekers connect with the profound heritage of India’s spiritual knowledge.

Charitable Hospitals and Health Services

As part of our commitment to seva (selfless service), the ashram supports charitable hospitals and health services dedicated to the well-being of all. These initiatives provide accessible and compassionate care to pilgrims, local communities, and those in need, regardless of background. Rooted in the healing environment of Rishikesh, our approach integrates traditional values with holistic wellness, offering support that nurtures both physical health and inner balance.

Accommodation facilities for pilgrims and seekers

The ashram offers simple, clean, and peaceful accommodation for pilgrims and spiritual seekers who wish to immerse themselves in yogic living. Designed to support a disciplined and mindful lifestyle, the living spaces provide comfort while maintaining the essence of simplicity.
